At Persaunet helse-/velferdssenter; we were treated to a presentation about Technology and Welfare by Marit Bråten.

This was a new move to use Welfare technology in a new way in a new unit in addition to staff not INSTEAD.
It is in use in the wards where patients have compromised mental health many of them have Alzheimers.
The result is that the Wards are calmer.
The technology is based about the use of Necklace alarms which wont allow the patients to leave the facility and patients can't access each other rooms.  The technology can also be used as a possible movement sensors - movement alarms e.g. Getting out of bed.
Wandering is stressful for the patients - getting lost - restricted area for their movement.
Staff have personal alarms which were later demonstrated.
Bracelet is an alarm and also a key
The doors won't open if a patient is not allowed go outside the nursing home.

After the presentation we had a full tour of this modern healthcare facility.

Huge visitor family cafeteria area.

Bedroom personalised with the residents own furniture,

Lovely details on the glass in the doors - beautiful facility sensitively designed.

I particulary liked the artwork on the walls and the personal pictures of the residents on their rooms.

Elsie with the Art Work

All the rooms were private.

After our visit we posed for a group photo outside the impressive facility at this great public art work.

We were given a presentation on this facility. which was originally Established 1272 when the Arch bishop set up first hospital.
The Site was selected here to be away from the town for infection and because they found water here.

They co-operate with Trondheim commune for apprentice training

KTVS school students do work experience here and some Instruction.

Staff help with instruction also

Staff and teachers know each other well and the teaching Staff feel very comfort here and this is good for relationships

Now the hospital is a also nursing home
  • All private rooms
  • First floor neurological e.g. Parkinson
  • 3 daycare centres
  • 2 day care for Young people diagnosed with Alzheimer's 50-65
  • Some residential

Do a lot of activities - known for this
"Joy of Life".

There is a church which was built in 1706 church on the grounds they also have a choir.

Started out with monks looking after the patients.
Volunteer centre with 100 volunteers.
"Men in health " trainees are also placed here

Joy of Life  - Livsglede  - Presentation.

The Livsglede philosphy is now 12 years old

It is an Independent public health organisation, began in 2006 founded by two students.

They felt the elderly in healthcare facilities looked more dead than alive.

They organised a "joy of life" week Eg cruises , Jumping out of a helicopter

We were treated to a Very emotional video showing all the activities of the first week.

First week was sponsored by a local business.

The idea spread.

Playschools located beside the nursing home and do activities together

Singing or Baking with the elderly.

The Trondheim hospital is a "joy of life" public nursing home

Now nationally certified programme.

Picture of the criteria are included here.

All staff must know the livsgledehjem philosophy

Each residents have their own personal activities plan according to their wishes not the preferences of the staff

Look at the family as a resource - simple example of a giving a cup of coffee to a visiting family member rather than ignoring them.

Social needs of the residents not just the medical

Student instruction happens in the actual nursing home better than theory.

Joy of life includes e.g. A trip in the forest every week -  walk in the forest - relationship between a stable companion weekly. Suitable destination, not too steep, cafe, benches and toilets.

After the presentations we had a lovely lunch which was very atmospheric.

We received certificates of participation in the programme and it was time to say goodbye to our hosts.

Tina in the centre with our wonderful hosts
Heidi, Anna Leine, Toje and Bente

I hope this blog is a representation of the very special learning experience we had.
